How to Follow Trading Signals Without Blowing Your Account

Two people can follow the same signal and get completely different results. One enters on time with the right size and a stop loss; the other enters late, doubles the lot and removes the stop “just this once”. A signal is only a trade idea. How you execute it decides whether it helps you or hurts you. Here is how to follow signals the right way.

What a proper signal contains

  • Pair: for example XAUUSD (gold) or EURUSD.
  • Direction: BUY or SELL.
  • Entry: a single price or a zone, such as 4175 to 4180.
  • Stop loss (SL): the price where the idea is wrong and the trade closes at a loss.
  • Take profits (TP1, TP2, TP3): where to bank profits along the way.
  • Timeframe: tells you whether this is a quick intraday trade or one that may take days.

A “signal” without a stop loss is not a signal. It is a gamble.

Market entry or pending order?

Compare the entry with the current price before you do anything:

  • Price is at the entry: you can enter at market.
  • A SELL with entry above the current price (or a BUY below it): place a limit order at the entry and wait. You are not in the trade until price reaches it, and it may never come.
  • Price has already moved far towards TP1: skip it. Entering late shrinks your reward and keeps the same risk.

Chasing a trade that has already left is one of the most common reasons signal followers lose money while the signal itself “hit TP”.

Size every signal for your own account

The provider does not know your balance, so the lot size is your job. Use the 1% rule: lot size = money at risk ÷ (distance to SL × value per lot). For gold, where $1 is worth $100 per lot, a $1,000 account risking $10 with a $5 stop trades 0.02 lot. The full method is in our lot size and risk management guide.

Never use the same fixed lot for every signal. A trade with a $15 stop needs a third of the size of a trade with a $5 stop.

Managing the trade: TP1, breakeven and moved stops

  1. Set the SL and TP in your platform as soon as you enter, so the trade is protected even if you lose internet or fall asleep.
  2. At TP1, close part of the position and move your stop loss to the entry price. The rest of the trade is now risk-free.
  3. When the provider moves the stop loss (to breakeven or into profit), update your own order right away. A moved stop only protects you if you move it too.
  4. If the SL is hit, accept it. Do not reopen the same trade with a bigger lot to “win it back”.

Judge a signal provider fairly

Every provider has losing trades and losing weeks. Judge results over at least 30 to 50 signals, not two or three, and look at the whole record: wins, losses and breakevens. Ask whether results are tracked honestly, including the trades that did not work.

Red flags to avoid

  • Promises of guaranteed or fixed monthly profits.
  • Signals with no stop loss, or stop losses added only after the trade is already losing.
  • Screenshots of winning trades only, never the losing ones.
  • Anyone asking you to send money to them personally to “manage” or “double” it.
  • Pressure to deposit more, quickly, before an “opportunity” disappears.

How our VIP Signals room works

We built VIP Signals around the habits above:

  • Every signal has an entry, a stop loss and up to three targets.
  • You get an instant alert on your phone, on the website or in our Android app, when a signal is posted, hits a target or has its stop moved.
  • Running trades are checked against live prices every minute, and pending entries only count once price actually reaches them.
  • Results include losses and breakevens, not just the wins.

Membership is PKR 4,500 (or $15) per month, or free when you open a trading account through our official broker referral link. See how to join.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make money just by copying signals?

Signals can help, but no signal service wins every trade, and results depend heavily on how you execute and size them. Understanding the basics, through our Forex Online Course or our free guides, makes you a far better signal follower.

I missed the entry. Should I still take the trade?

Only if price is still close to the entry and the distance to TP1 is at least as big as the distance to the stop loss. Otherwise, let it go. There will be another trade.
